1 April, 2003 : Ancient
Briton Unearthed by Mexican Team
"It's like discovering a dollar in the dirt" said
Cruz Azul Sahuayo A.C. spokesman Ernesto Blanco, after the internationally
famous football club unveiled their latest discovery to the
world's press before the start of the new season.
The Ancient
Briton,
pictured
here, is thought by most experts to be at least 157 years old,
he was found face-down in in long grass by the future goalmouth
while the
club
field
was
being prepared for the opening game, .
"
I thought it was dead" said the groundsman "but I kicked
at it and he appealed for a penalty."
Cruz Azul's under pressure chairman "Mucho" said that the fans should be
happy with their new discovery. "He cost us nothing, we'll pay him nothing,
so don't expect nothing." But team captain Bernabe Gaspar was upbeat: "We
needed a big, strong, fast centre-forward," he
said, "but this will have to do."
