May 5, 2003 : 'Adomaydis' Breaks Dreadlock
After successfully opening the new league campaign with two 0-0 draws, Cruz Azul win. Playing in their home-built 'mini' goals (see previous 'Farmers misplace goalposts' article), Cruz Azul opened the season with two sizzling goaless draws. Goalkeeper Minutez, just back from an appearence as a Hobbit extra in El Rey De La Ringos, had been able to reach the crossbar for the first time in his life and stopped everything.

But on Sunday the goalless sequence ended in shocking fashion in the 18th minute when Azul's giant, 5'9", rediscovered Acient Briton powered, -yes really!-, powered, home an Alan Shearer like bullet header right into the top corner of the net from 12yrds out.
The man that the Mexican press has dubbed 'Adomaydis' (seriously) had to leave the field shortly afterwards for attention to a niggling hangover, but by then the damage was done.Cruz Azul were 2-0 up and that's how it finished.

'Aye, I was a wee-bit dissappointed when that one flew in,' lamented Cruz Azul's Scottish coach Georgio Bungio Grahamio (ex Arsenalio), 'but at least our keeper Minutex, (pictured avove relaxing), he kept a clean sheet.'
