13 July, 2003 : Sunstroke Mystery Surrounds Sudden Resurgence Of Adomaydis
Forgotten striker awakes to score goal of a lifetime. Seventy minutes of football, the game goalless, somehow Cruz Azul were holding on against the team third in the league.Coach Grahamio was a happy man, having subbed out any players likely to score, pulled everybody back to defend and left only dormant striker Adomaydis up front.
Adomaydis shoots Grahamio's confidence in his striker had been bouyed by the fact that it was over two months since his last goal. His instructions, seen left scrawled on his trdaemark blackboard, were written in chalk: "Shoot but don't score or you're out the door." The picture clearly shows a door, a manhole cover, a distant place (Real Madrid?) and Adomaydis with two matador spears in his sunhat...

Suddenly in the 71st minute a fluffy little cloud appeared in the vast blue sky masking the sun, (shade temperature 90°), Adomaydis looked up, and the vapour dissappeared in a puff. Back on the baking earth, the ancient striker found he was clean through, 25 yardometres out, and, temporarily blinded by del sol, he unleashed a thunderous volley into the top corner, even tearing the net from the goal frame!
Once the game restarted, the usual thing happened, the opposition promptly equalised. But wait! a minute later captain Gaspar stumbled through three challenges and released the ball to 'relámpago' Miguel who tore down the wing and kocked in a low ball that Adomaydis dispatched, again on the volley, into the roof of the net as if he'd been doing it all season.

It was all too much for caoch Grahamio and for Cruz's opponents who fell apart and conceded two more. Grahamio was stunned: "0-0 is the purest result in football," he grumbled, "we were so close. I mean, I don't mind sneaking a late 1-0 win, but 4-1 is plain sloppy." Despite Grahamio's criticism the players were bouyant, as was club chairman 'Mucho' Papel Moneda "We've had an approach from Real, they want Adomaydis to add to their Galacticos, but they'll have to pay more than a few tacos after this!"
