Nikos Kazantzakis
| (1883-1957, writer) |
|
After finishing the edits on my novels and throughout the publishing process, I read Zorba The Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis, (translation: Wildman). Had I read it earlier, it would definately have influenced me - Wildman's translation is masterful.
The author, Nikos Kazantzakis, also wrote The Last Temptation of Christ - which was adapted to film by Scorsese.

The Whole Problem
|
|
GI Gurdjieff posted aphorisms above doorways and on walls of his 'institute' to remind himself and his guests of important truths. Sayings, quotes, maxims, can all be aphorismic (i.e. setting out some kind of truth or boundary (the word derives from latin meaning 'a horizon'). Here are a couple.
The present period of culture is, in the whole process of perfecting humanity, an
empty and abortive interval : GI Gurdjieff
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts... : Bertrand Russell

Mars Is Here : Poetry

That Wednesday's poem, or prose, or arrangement of sentence fragments...- here -
The Mars picture looks suspiciously like the Middle East, don't you think?
